The First Date

Before we can get to the juicy details about the first date, we have to go back to the night he asked me out. If you haven’t read it yet, read all about the saga that occurred when we first met here (How we met).

After he asked me out and our shift ended, I got home and told my roommates every detail. Then, he called me. He wanted to plan out our date…. Such a cutie. Who even plans dates in advance these days anyways? I think we should make it a more regular thing. So, we set the date, made the plans to go longboarding through the park and go to lunch. There was one small detail that I failed to mention. “I think I should let you know that our date is on my birthday.” “Oh! Well, I should make you a cake. What flavor do you like?” Thinking he was joking, I said surprise me. A few days later, he shows up on my doorstep for our date with a full-on double chocolate 2-layer cake with chocolate frosting. 1. That’s a lot of chocolate (his favorite), and 2. THE CUTEST THING EVER!! What a thoughtful guy! I felt kind of bad because I don’t actually like cake, but I still ate it with a smile because it was the sweetest gesture (every pun intended ;)).

So, our date went on, we went our for Mexican food (my favorite), went long boarding in a parking structure and I almost flew off the building, but also made a crazy awesome sharp turn that will only happen once in my lifetime and I take pride in it. Then we went to the park and literally climbed to the top of a tall tree. How we got up there? No idea. If I attempted anything like that these days, I would pull something. Then the date was “over.” Meaning we did everything we set out to do and had a great time together. Well, it was my birthday and I wasn’t about to stop the fun. “Want to go to my friends baseball game with me?” “Sure! I’d love to!” So, we went to my friend’s baseball game and played catch for awhile.

“Want to go to the movies later with me and my friends?” “Sure!” Dang, this guy must really like me to keep saying yes. Needless to say, we spent several hours together on our first date and it was awesome! There’s one detail I forgot to mention…. I totally faked that I wanted to hold his hand just to see what he would do. I know, I’m the meanest person!! But, it wasn’t the last time that I would do that during the time we were dating. I know, terrible. What happened? The poor sweet guy tried to hold my hand and I moved my hand away! Seriously, guys, I’m the worst. Thankfully, he has always looked back on it and thought it was funny, but we all admit my savagery. To this day, I wish I could go back and hold that sweet hand. But, I get to…. Eventually.
